Indiana
Day 2: Dunes State Park Indiana
Rather than trekking to all the way to Illinois with all of our belongings we have decided to bunker down in Dunes State Park in Indiana on the border of Lake Michigan about an hour East of Chicago. Chicago, being a main city is very limited in cheap lodging especially of the camping variety so we have to stay in the “outer limits”.
Today we passed several Alpaca farms and dozens of tractor trailers making our way west on 80. We also passed the sign indicating that we have hit the Central Time Zone and are officially in the Mid-west!
Right now we are laying in the tent getting ready for bed. Jack is wearing his head lamp going over local maps and train schedules so we can coordinate our day tomorrow in Chicago. This evening after making a dinner of basmati rice with tomato and leftover burrito from Johhny Mangos we drove down to Lake Michigan just as the sun was setting behind the Chicago skyline. It was a beautiful sunset of crimson, pink and orange against the charcoal grey outlines of the buildings. The skies were clear and a slight breeze rolled off of the lake and into the sea grass lining the costal shore. Down the road (but unfortunately closed after dusk) are the actual Dunes where you can go climbing along the shore. Nearby there is also a limestone trail for biking.
Tomorrow we head to Chicago. Hopefully I’ll be able to snag some free wifi and bombard our readers with posts of the past few days! We wanted to check out a game but the Cubs aren’t playing home until next week but with all of the museums, art galleries, parks and the veggie famous Chicago Diner I doubt we’ll find a lack in things to do!
PS. Sorry if you see that our posts are backdated. We’re trying to keep as organized as we can without having to posts extremely lengthly updates!
